Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), said China is the world’s largest developing country and Latin America is a key region where developing countries are concentrated.

Li said the essence of China-Latin America cooperation is South-South cooperation, which neither targets nor excludes third parties.

“The Latin American Parliament is the most important and representative inter-parliamentary organization in the Latin American and Caribbean region, and plays an active role in promoting China-Latin America cooperation,” Li said.

He added that the NPC is willing to further enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation with the Latin American Parliament to facilitate the high-quality construction of the Belt and Road between China and Latin America with legal guarantees, to better enrich people-to-people cooperation, and to push forward the development of the China-Latin America comprehensive partnership of cooperation.

Pizarro said the Latin American Parliament attaches great importance to cooperation with the NPC, and will adhere to the one-China principle to promote cooperation between the two sides.
