Upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advancing the modernization of China’s system and capacity for governance is a strong guarantee for the country’s response to risks and challenges and taking initiatives, according to Xi Jinping.

Xi, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in a speech to explain the CPC Central Committee’s decision on the subject during the fourth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee in late October, which adopted the decision.

In a world undergoing changes unseen in a century, the risks and challenges that the country is facing are more severe than ever, Xi said, adding that the risks and challenges arise both at home and abroad, as well as from social and economic fields and the nature.

The impact of the risks and challenges must be dealt with using the power of the system, Xi noted.
