Kabul has been hit by a suicide attack, interior ministry official said, with casualties feared in the first major attack in the Afghan capital in months.

“The explosion was a suicide attack with civilian casualties,” the ministry of interior’s deputy spokeswoman Marwa Amini told AFP news agency.

The blast took place at the entrance gate of a government-run defence university, the Marshal Fahim Military Academy, Reuters reported quoting security sources.

A witness near the scene in western Kabul confirmed the explosion.

No group has claimed immediate responsibility.
