LONDON — Police in Scotland said on Friday they were “dealing with an incident” in a busy area in downtown Glasgow.

Videos and images on social media appeared to show at least a dozen police — some of them armed —and emergency vehicles on the road in the city center. No details were yet announced but the incident took place on West George Street.

The busy central street is close to a large train station and several restaurants and hotels. It has now been closed off, according to Greater Glasgow Police, who have asked the public to avoid the area.

“The situation is contained at this time and there is no danger to the general public,” Greater Glasgow Police said on Twitter.
