Washington and Paris saw strained relations under President Donald Trump over France’s attempt to tax American technology companies

The leaders agreed to work together on issues regarding China, the Middle East, Russia and Africa’s Sahel region

US President Joe Biden spoke to French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday, with both leaders promising to closely coordinate on confronting climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic and the global economic recovery, according to a White House statement.

The statement said Biden also “stressed his commitment to bolstering the transatlantic relationship, including through Nato and the United States’ partnership with the European Union.” 

The leaders also agreed to work together on issues regarding China, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa’s Sahel region.

Biden previously spoke with the leaders of Canada, Britain and Mexico in his first presidential calls since being inaugurated this week.
