KALININGRAD, January 25. /TASS/. More than 3,000 military servicemen of the Baltic Fleet’s units are involved in the just-started large-scale routine combat training drills, the fleet’s press-service said on Monday.

Participating in the combat readiness drills are more than 3,000 officers and men and more than 300 pieces of military equipment, including aircraft, and also the fleet’s air defense and naval engineering service. The personnel are practicing alert procedures, measures to get military equipment ready for leaving bases and hangars relocation to the designated areas, the press-service said.

At proving grounds in the Kaliningrad Region, the fleet’s ground forces will be conducting firing practice using small arms, grenade launchers, and the standard weapons of armored personnel carriers BMP-2 and T-72B3 tanks against targets simulating the hypothetical enemy’s tracked and wheeled vehicles and manpower. In the meantime, the fleet’s naval aviation and air defense units will practice their standard tasks.

The exercises and drills will last a week. Unified recommendations will be drawn up for all military units to follow to enhance combat readiness, optimize command and control and increase the effectiveness of using the available forces and means, the press-service said.
